On behalf of the Al Cordoba Group, the American Association of Neurological Surgeons, and entire course faculty, it is with great pleasure to invite you to the Second Annual Neurosurgery Masters’ Update symposium; to be held in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, from December 3-5, 2008.
The 3 day symposium is organized by Dubai’s upcoming Al Cordoba International Brain & Spine Institute and under the auspices of the UAE Minister of Health His Excellency Sheikh Humaid Al-Qutami.
The theme for this year’s international event is advances in skull base surgery. We have assembled an elite group of global opinion leaders to give keynote talks on their specific areas of expertise and bring participants up-to-the-minute advances in the field. The stellar educational program will feature the latest technological and scientific advances in vascular, interventional, oncological, and endoscopic management of the entire spectrum of skull base pathology; emphasizing an interdisciplinary approach to disease management.
Upon completion of this program, participants should
be able to:
1. Indentify anatomic landmarks and describe the
steps involved in advanced skull base surgical
approaches.
2. Understand the advantages of endoscopy as an
adjunct to complex skull base surgery, and
appreciate its limitations and pitfalls.
3. Describe the indications and limitations for
coiling of intracranial aneurysms, and percutaneous
embolization of hypervascular skull base tumors.
4. Appreciate the importance of a team approach in
the management of skull base pathology.
The academic agenda entails a microsurgical anatomy practical hands-on course led by Dr. Rhoton, with workshops on minimally invasive endoscopic approaches to the skull base and pituitary fossa by Dr. Amin Kassam. Didactic/plenary sessions are enhanced with
state-of-the-art 3DHD presentations of intraoperative footage, seminars and ‘Neurosurgery with the Masters’ sessions for roundtable discussion of challenging cases. We encourage you to submit your own electronic cases online for these highly interactive sessions.
Our objective is to uphold the tradition of academic excellence of the AANS and provide you with the highest quality learning and networking opportunities in the fascinating and welcoming city of Dubai.
